Peter Marshall (1902-1949) was born in Coatbridge, Scotland. Throughout childhood, he struggled with poverty due to his father’s death when Peter was only four years old. He moved to the United States in 1927 and graduated from Columbia Seminary in Decatur, Georgia in1931. He pastored three churches including the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. the last twelve years of his life.
He served as Chaplain of the United States Senate from January, 1947 until his death. His life story was made into a motion picture based upon the biography written by his wife entitled, A Man Called Peter.
