Under The Fig Tree
Fig Tree
Fig Tree

What about this concept of the fig tree? We know that the fig tree represented the nation of Judah and the fig tree represented the religion of Judaism as a whole. When Jesus said in John 1:48, before Philip called you, Nathaniel, you were under the fig tree, and I saw you. Now was Nathaniel standing under a literal fig tree? Is that what that means? I don't believe that that's what it means. Nathaniel was under the authority of Judaism.

The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ
Crucifixion of Jesus
Crucifixion of Jesus

Throughout the history of the Christian church, many different groups, denominations, different movements, different doctrines have developed over the last two thousand years. A lot of different ideas and many different ideas prevail today, and it is a wonder if some of them are Biblical, sometimes you wonder if some of them are even within the scope of Christianity.

One of the things that I'm referring to is the arrest, the crucifixion, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ as prescribed by the scriptures, according to the proper timing. Some have said, well, it doesn't matter when Jesus was crucified. It doesn't matter when He rose from the dead. They're only concerned about the fact that He was crucified, and that He did rise from the dead.

But the Bible sets down a pattern. And in order for Jesus Christ to prove to the people of His day and our day that He was and is the Messiah, then the prophecies must come to pass according to the proper chronology and according to the time clock that God had set down for different things to transpire. It gives us an idea and a pattern by which the Lord works with that nation called, The Seventy Week nation

Jerusalem on Trial - Part 13-17
Jesus with the Pharisees
Jesus with the Pharisees

For several years before the Babylonian captivity of the Southern Kingdom of Judah, the prophet Jeremiah uttered repeated warnings of judgment upon the wicked nation because of its egregious iniquity. The ‘bad figs’ element within that ancient nation, no doubt was the blame for the moral and political corruption that permeated every fiber of the national culture. Jeremiah spoke of those ‘bad figs’ and God’s on-going retribution upon them because of their sinister control and corrupting affect over the body politic.

The wicked nature of the pre-captivity nation paled in comparison to the post captivity nation during the 400 years of the Intertestamental Period. Both Biblical and secular history reveals the religious and political intrigue that was prevalent in the national leadership leading up to the time of Jesus. Then the Gospel writers recorded the verbal confrontations of the Pharisees with Jesus and His proclamation of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans.

Who Hath Believed?

The understanding of the Abrahamic Covenant is the key to the understanding of history. It identifies the people that God is going to work through and it identifies the progressive revelation of God to man because when we read this book each progressive revelation of God to man was to a member of the Abrahamic family.

Salvation through David's greater Son is within the confines of the Abrahamic family. The Bible tells us very clearly, “that in Isaac shall thy seed be called.” The descendants of Isaac and Isaac only shall this seed of Abraham be called.

“For in Isaac shall thy seed be called.” Genesis 21:12

Who are the people of God? Who in the earth today are God's Chosen people? Who are the seed of Abraham? What people in the earth today is the seed of Isaac? Which people today are the sons and daughters of Jacob? Who are the true Israelites in the earth?

Was there a social order before Adam? Was there a creation of man before Adam that God overthrew?

“I beheld the earth and lo it was without form and void, and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains and lo, they trembled and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled, I beheld, and lo, the fruit, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger.” Jeremiah 4:23.

Now is this talking about the overthrow of that first earth age before Adam and then the second earth age started with Adam. And we're still in that second earth age because we are descendants of Adam.

“And the earth was without form and void, and the earth became without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2

“For this they are willingly ignorant, the scoffers are willingly ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water.” 2 Peter 3:3

You see the picture that Genesis gives us is that the whole globe at one time was covered with water. Because, and darkness was upon the face of the deep and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
