Christ in the Southern Army
In God We Trust
Flag - In God We Trust

There have been many spiritual revivals in the United States such as the first great awakening and then the revival that took place under the preaching of George Whitefield. The second great awakening around 1800. There was also the Cane Ridge revival in Western Kentucky. but one such spiritual refreshing in our history came during one of the darkest hours of our existence as a nation. In fact the Lord saw fit to providentially send this revival to our people during the time when we were the most divided in terms of politics, education, culture, economics and religious faith. This was during the military conflict that we know as 'The War for Southern Independence' of 1861 - 1865.
At this time in our national history, the regions of the North and South were quite different from one another in many ways. For several decades preceding the war, the natural development of these two regions seemed to go in somewhat opposite directions. The South developed as an agrarian and rural society, while the North was more industrialized and urban. The southern political leaders advocated a more traditional interpretation of our national Constitution while the northern leaders followed a more liberal view. One of the most obvious differences was in the area of religious belief and social philosophy. Some of the established churches and prominent ministers of the North seemed to be more influenced by the unscriptural philosophies of Deism, Pantheism, Unitarianism, Humanism and rationalism which was a carry-over from the recent "reign of terror" of the French Revolution. These philosophies had invaded the educational institutions such as Harvard & Yale Universities.
At this same time most churches and Christian ministers of the South held to the more traditional Calvinistic view and practice of Scripture that had been passed down from the Protestant Reformation. It just seemed inevitable that the people of these two regions of the same country would eventually come to a parting of the ways or at least a clash of political, cultural and religious philosophies. Instead it came to a head in the form of a military conflict which resulted in more deaths than all other American wars combined. In all American wars from the Revolutionary War through Vietnam – the total U.S. military casualty count was 639,557. During the “The War Between the States” between 1861-1865 the total casualty count was 665,850.
During this time of national crisis when seemingly our nation was the most divided, the Lord in His sovereign mercy saw fit to send a mighty spiritual revival to the Confederate army of the South with such powerful results that it would still be felt to this day. The spiritual impact of this great revival helped to solidify what we still call the "Bible Belt." The revival that took place would affect many of the officers and common soldiers of the three main divisions of the southern army, but mainly The Army of Northern Virginia of which General Robert E. Lee was the commanding officer.

Who Wrote the Bible?
Early Bible Scrolls
Early Bible Scrolls

In Christian circles many religious legends have evolved. I call them legends because they originated from someplace and they seem to perpetuate themselves, even though they are not true. One of these legends is who wrote the Bible. There is a fundamental misunderstanding as to who wrote the Bible, who actually was instrumental in the hand of the Almighty God to hear the words and to pen the words on scrolls which were later transferred over to book form. It is extremely important to understand this.

Starting in Isaiah 9:8

"The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel," the word, the Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath alighted upon Israel."

In other words, Israel heard the Word of God in the Old Testament. Now the legend that I'm referring to that you hear from pulpits, from televangelists, from Christians everywhere, and the legend is that the Jews wrote the Bible.

Who is this King of Glory?
King of Glory
King of Glory

Christianity revolves around the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord is the beginning of all things. He's the support of all things, and he is the end of all things. Now the great principle that is found in the Word of God and is absolutely irrefutable and that is monotheism. There is only one God in the universe, one deity, one Supreme Being, all the other so-called deities, so-called gods are no gods at all. They are the imagination of men's minds. They are demonic. They are the works of man's hands or man's mind, such as a philosophical thought, or a physical object made out of wood or stone, no God at all.

Starting in the book of Psalm 24:7-10

"Lift up your heads, O ye gates and be ye lifted up ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads oh ye gates, even lift them up ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah."

Did Our Lord Visit Britain?
Shores of Britain

Little is know about the account of our Lord’s visit to Britain and the early establishment of the British Christian Church by Joseph of Arimathaea. Have you ever wondered about the 18 silent years in the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ? Have you ever asked; Where was He? And what was He doing? Little is known of the boyhood of Jesus until at the age of twelve when He appeared before the rabbis in the temple at Jerusalem. Then the Scriptures give no record of his life until He appeared at the age of 30 at the River Jordan when baptized by John. Where was he between the ages of 12 and 30? There are historical records that will help furnish answers to these questions? The Cathedral at Glastonbury and the surrounding area in Southwest England, offers evidence that our Lord visited there during those silent years.

The British Isles are rich in early Christian history and offers evidence that it was chosen of God in the life of the Apostolic Church as the nation to receive the Gospel of Christ. Therefore, it should not be surprising that our Lord Himself would go there with His mother after the death of her husband Joseph.

E. Raymond Capt, Bible scholar and archeologist described their arrival in Britain.

“Arriving first on the Western coast land of England, before making their way inland to a place near the present town of Glastonbury, once known as the Isle of Avalon, here Joseph of Arimathaea established a home for Mary and the boy Jesus. The site of which is covered today by the ruins of the great Glastonbury Abbey, which is the oldest religious foundation in the British Isles.”

It is believed that Jesus Himself helped build a wattle church on that very spot and its ruins must have been in existence at the time of Augustine's visit to Britain in AD 597 as he referred to it in a letter to Pope Gregory in Rome.

Why Prophecy Matters
Prophecy
Prophecy

Prophecy is such a maze in American theology. Robert Caringola has written a book called Seventy Weeks, The Historical Alternative. Robert has made a twenty-five year study on the different aspects of prophetic interpretation. Many of you have the book, but he has done an excellent job in explaining the seventy weeks of Daniel. In the book of Second Peter 1:19-21, We have also a more sure word of prophecy; "whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." Robert explains the three major interpretations of prophecy.

The Sun, Moon & Stars
Eclipse
Eclipse

What is the concept of the sun, moon and the stars in the Bible? When there is a solar or lunar eclipse, does it refer only to the state of Israel in the Old Testament or in the New Testament? Does it refer only to the Israeli state that exists in Palestine today? It could refer to the nation of Israel, God's chosen people, all twelve tribes in the Old Testament. It could refer to Judah only or it could refer to heathen nations. We must take a broad look at this concept of the Blood Moon. We know that it is not a literal thing where blood is on the moon. The lunar eclipse is a literal thing, but is there blood on the moon? No, there is no blood on the moon. It's because of the orangeish color. The reason why I mention this is because it's believed by some that the fulfillment of Joel chapter two and Acts chapter two is when an American astronaut landed on the moon, he actually set his feet on the moon. So there was blood in his veins, so the believers say that's blood on the moon, so that's the fulfillment of that prophecy.

The Descendants of Shem
Shem, Ham and Japheth
Shem, Ham and Japheth

Can it be proven that all Jews are Israelites, and all Israelites are Jews? Can it be proven by the word of God that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus were Jews as we know the Jewish people today? Can it be proven that the Jews brought us salvation? Can it be proven that Christianity is based on Judaism? What is your definition of Judaism? Can it be proven that after the rapture all Jews will accept Christ and evangelize the world? But yet that's what's being taught from so many pulpits and classrooms today. Now if all modern day Jewish people comprise all thirteen Tribes of Israel, God's promise of Jeremiah 31:31-34 has failed and the blood of Jesus was ineffective for atonement, to ratify a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. If the covenant of Jeremiah 31:31 was promised to Israel and if the Jews are Israel, then that promise of a New Covenant is ineffective. It just simply didn't work, but the covenant of Jeremiah 31:31 and the promise thereof worked and therefore that New Covenant has been made with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, the lineage of Israel and the lineage of Judah.

The Way of Balaam
An Angel Met Balaam with a Sword
An Angel Met Balaam with a Sword

Balak the king of Moab wanted Balaam to come over and curse the children of Israel. He sent ambassadors to Balaam and Balaam said no I will not go.In Numbers 22:7 it tells us something that gives us a clue as to what's going to happen. “And the elders of Moab, and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand.” What did they come with? They came with money. Now let's see what this prophet does. He refuses. In Numbers 22:12 it says, “God said unto Balaam thou shall not go with them. Thou shalt not curse the people, for they are blessed,” talking about Israel. And then he tells the ambassadors of Moab I’m not going so they go back and Balak sends more ambassadors to try to convince him. And this time they said they brought the message from Balak. I will promote thee unto very great honor and will do whatsoever thou saith unto me. First of all, it’s money, the rewards of divination or the rewards of prophecy.
